As part of the Big Draw 2004, I divided classes of school children (7-10 yr olds) into groups of 8 with 4 children drawing the 4 'sitters' placed opposite them. First the hair and face shape were observed and drawn. While the drawing stayed in place - the childen doing the drawing moved along, so that another child then observed and drew the eyes, then another the nose and cheeks, and then finally the last one drew the mouth. There were no time constrictions imposed. The last few examples in the slideshow show what happened when a teacher with good drawing skills joined in. What surprised me was that the groups of children who behaved well also produced the most cohesive and lively personalities.
